Unveiled in June 1883, originally placed in front of the gymnasium, later moved to Plain in front of Superintendent's residence. Quarters of the Professor of Natural and Philosophical Sciences is visible right rear.
The Riding Hall, designed by Cram, Goodhue, and Ferguson was completed in 1909. In 1958 it was renamed Thayer Hall and converted to an academic building by adding four interior levels and two additional entrances on its west side.

The old West Point Hotel, built in 1829, stood at the north end of the Plain (now known as Trophy Point). The main hotel building was demolished in the early 1930's after the Hotel Thayer had been built.
